The Law

In 1989 and 1990 the European Council agreed to a Framework Directive (89/391/EEC) on health and safety, together with five other so-called ‘Daughter’ Directives - to encourage improvements in the health and safety of workers at work.

 The requirements of the Framework Directive include:

  • assessment of risk, to employees and others;
  • planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of protective and preventative measures
  • health surveillance
  • competent safety officers to be appointed and the provision of reasonable facilities and assistance to safety officers to allow them to carry out all their statutory functions;
  • procedures to cope with serious and imminent danger - and people to implement emergency procedures.

There are a variety of ways to implement procedures, training and the ongoing requirements.  Using the Vision Screener assists in addressing the more emotive issues of ‘eye problems’.
